Your donations and support are critical to our Mission of providing specialized services to the victims of domestic violence in Kankakee and surrounding counties. Below are some of the ways in which you can join us in this important work:
~~Donate your merchandise:
Your donation is important. To all our wonderful donors: thank you for supporting our services to survivors of Domestic Violence through your donations. Please know that we truly appreciate your generosity!! As your support has grown, we have found it necessary to implement guidelines to best serve our clients.
When you donate items to Harbor House, you will receive a receipt for your charitable donation. Should you choose, you can place a value on your donation for tax purposes. Your donations will be used in the following ways:
1) To aid clients with setting up a home or with their immediate needs.
2) For use in the Shelter.
3) As merchandise in our Resale Store to generate income for victim services.
If we may suggest.....
--Please call before you leave home (or even before loading your items) to verify we have space to accept your donation.
--If possible, please pack your donations in small boxes or 13-gallon trash bags. This ensures they are not too heavy to lift.
--We accept most items as long as they are new or gently used - not broken, stained or torn.
--Please understand there may be occasions when we are unable to accept your donation due to space limitations. Although we would prefer making arrangements to accept your donation at a later time, we will offer you other drop-off options for your convenience.
WHAT WE CANNOT ACCEPT:
We cannot accept some items due to their usability and/or regulations.
--Items that are broken, torn or stained.
--Computers and other electronics more than 2 years old.
--All types of car seats.
--Cribs that do not meet regulations (slats no more than 2-3/8" apart).
--Large appliances at our Kankakee drop-off location - we CAN accept at our Resale Store in Watseka.
Donations accepted in Kankakee Monday through Friday 10 am - 4 pm and the second Saturday of every month from 10 am -2 pm. Please call first - 815-932-5814.
Donations accepted in Watseka on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9 am - 3 pm or by appointment. Call 815-432-3525

~~Donate your old cell phones
How can you help? Donate your old or unused cell phones to Harbor House. Ask your friends, neighbors and coworkers to 'dig out' those old phones in any condition--working or not. We will use them in one of two ways:
--911 calling: To give to clients who do not have a phone to make emergency '911' calls.
--To send to a company that refurbishes old cell phones and gives us money for each phone.
