Non-direct Services
No direct contact with clients

      Daily

  • Resale store volunteer
  • Pick-up, accept, organize donations going to resale store
  • Delivering items to resale store (driving the van to Watseka)
  • Clerical – file, organize, write, call
  • Housekeeping chores around the office
  • Stocking food donations in the pantry

   Weekly

  • Clean and organize cupboards in client kitchen
  • Weekly housekeeping chores
  • Cell phone pick-up, box-up, and shipping
  • Any of the daily items

    Monthly

  • Organize literature areas – cabinet, shelves, and display
  • Inventory pantry
  • Any of the daily or weekly items

    Seasonally

  • Spring/Summer/Fall - Grounds maintenance – trimming trees and shrubbery
  • Spring/Summer/Fall - Minor exterior painting (mostly window frames)
  • Spring/Summer/Fall - Lawn mowing, yard work, pick up garbage.
  • Spring/Summer/Fall - Light gardening
  • Winter - Wrap donated holiday gifts (Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, etc.)

    Annually

  • February Mailing for Amethyst Dinner (fundraising banquet)
  • May - Bulk Membership Drive mailing
  • September - Labor Day Parade
  • September - Large mailing in early September for Appreciation Breakfast
  • September or October - Walk in the Purple Ribbon Empowerment Walk for Harbor House (usually the last Saturday in September)

    As Needed

  • Speaker’s Bureau – public speaking and education
  • Mending
  • Working in a booth at various events to represent Harbor House
  • Painting/Construction/Maintenance
  • Serve on one of our established committees (Fundraising, Newsletter, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Iroquois County Task Force, Building & Grounds)

    From Home:

  • Follow-up calls for events
  • Mending
  • Thank-you notes
  • Purple Ribbon cards

Direct Services
Direct contact with clients - Requires 40 hours of Domestic Violence Education
training & 20 hours of job shadowing.

     Daily:

  • Receive Hotline calls
  • Telephone Reception, Visitor Greeter, Client Door Monitor
  • Legal Advocacy
  • Client Advocacy

    Weekly:

  • Skill sharing - budget, cooking/baking, hobbies, interviewing process
  • Support Group (assist or conduct)
  • Any daily item

    Occasionally:

  • Transport clients to appointments, etc.
  • Child care at the shelter
  • Counseling (requires approval)
  • Assist with client social gatherings, parties, or field trips (ie. Client Christmas Party)
  • Any daily or weekly item
  • Interact with clients in shelter
