Day 25
Sorry I haven't updated recently..
no real access to the internet we had 2 short days of 62
miles each- not very memorable headwinds, some climbing-
lots of flat- non interesting landscape we continued to
ride pace lines and just got it done!
A rest day in Abilene was a real rest day- got a massage
and really didn't do much but recover from the last 9
days of riding. Yesterday was 106 miles from Abilene to
Topeka- through the Flint Hills- meant some climbing-
but beautiful scenery- some headwinds, some cross winds,
some tail winds. At mile 71 we met Gary- he owns
Bob's BBQ and he opened it up for us and served ribs and
pork sandwiched- great man Gary!
Than we just rode it in to Topeka- very tired- today 84
miles to St. Joseph Missouri
See you out there

Day 26
First- To Susie- Damien is doing great- riding strong
and having a good time. Today- 84 miles- 5 hrs on
the road- 4.5 riding- finally out of Kansas- in
Missouri- took our time- the wind was a little better-
mostly cross and a little tail wind- nice and cool- all
in all a pretty good day.
So... this touring bike is great, but it keeps getting
heavier every day, so I'm going to try to get different
wheels to try to lighten the load. Now that we're
in the Midwest and the East- lots of rolling hills.
See you out there

June 5
St. Joseph Missouri to
somewhere else in Missouri- distance- 87 miles- avg.
speed- 15.2 mph- elevation climb-5000ft- rolling hills-
some 13-16% grade- So Another good day of riding- the
weather was great- sunny- cool- a huge storm last night-
but by the morning it was clear and mostly tailwinds- So
Missouri definitely wins the road kill contest- mostly
snakes, turtles and frogs- reptiles don't do well
crossing the roads down here- Got to sleep in today- we
were scheduled to go to a SAG stop run by the Maysville
Historical Society- so we had to form up just outside of
town at 10:00 a.m. and ride in together- since it was
only 31 miles- we (Darryl, Rich, Laura and me) left at
7:30 -took our time and got there about 9:30- the fun
part was that the form up lot was in a school yard and
the kindergarten kids all came out when we rode up-
really funny- The rest of the day was pretty uneventful-
just up one hill- down another- all day long- WVLI
called and we did a phone interview- so listen for that-
Anyway- tomorrow- more of he same- but as long as the
tailwinds hold out- piece of cake
See you out there

June 6
From somewhere in Missouri to Kirkville Missouri- 74
miles- 5000 ft. of elevation gain- all rolling hills-
First thing- I really like U.S. Cellular- this is
definitely a endorsement- I have had great reception and
service throughout this entire trip- however today was
incredible- when I arrived at the hotel- my phone
wouldn't work- it was frozen up- well as we were going
to the Mexican Restaurant for our post ride recovery
meal- I saw a U.S. Cellular store- I went in- and the
sales manager- not only replaced the phone- on the spot-
FOR FREE- but told me to go have my lunch and come back
after I had eaten- when I did- it was all set up- new
phone- all my info (really just transferred my Sims
card) - but this was what I would consider great
customer service-
Okay- enough of that-
today was a
good day- I was the 5th. rider to the hotel- Darryl was
1st., Laura was 2nd. and Don was 3rd.- and Peggy was
4th.- Scott was ahead of me- he passed me about 20 miles
out- but I just kept grinding it out- rolling those
hills- and about 10 miles out I overtook him and got in
about 10 minutes ahead of him- Ok I know it's not a
race- but sometimes at the tip of the spear- it does a
fairly good imitation- Really humid today- 80% humidity-
so after about 15 minutes of riding we were just covered
in Sweat-the country was beautiful- green- rolling
pastures and rivers- back state roads- a really nice day
of riding- Tomorrow we enter Illinois- looking forward
to Springfield- seeing the group that will ride to
Champaign- and our rest day in Champaign-
See you out there
Jim
June 7
Kirkville Mo to Quincy Ill- 74 miles- 4 hrs.- 1st.
one in today- it should have been an easy day- short
distance- some climbing- but we had headwinds and hot
sun and humidity- but still not bad- glad to be out of
Missouri and back in Illinois
