Quincy Ill- Springfield Ill- 107 miles- 6 hrs- avg. speed- 16.4 mph- today was a really good riding day- rain- cloud cover- cool temperatures----- and mostly no wind or tail winds- some headwinds- but nothing bad- it's nice to be back to flat ground- after the 2nd. SAG Darryl set a killer pace for the last 37 miles-we covered that in less than 2 hrs- at one point I was going 28mph and couldn't keep up with him-
Anyway- tomorrow the riders from Kankakee are coming to join us for a day- if they're lucky we'll have 50 mph headwinds- and suddenly mountains will sprout up in Illinois-and sleet too- why not- so they can get a real feel for this ride!!
See you out there

Quincy Ill. to Springfield- 107 miles - This was the easiest century I've ever done- it started out with rain and cool temperatures- we had cloud cover all day- so no real heat or burning sun and a nice tail wind- nothing memorable- just  a pleasant ride"

June 10
Springfield to Champaign- scheduled- 87 miles- actual- 95 miles-
So first- the Harbor House Riders came along today- let's start with Al and his 11 year old daughter- Gabriel- this was a hot day- baking sun- no cloud cover and we had 2 detours- due to bridges being out- which made the ride longer than scheduled- yet Gabriel finished this whole ride- on a hybrid bike- without clip less pedals- what a warrior- my hat is off to you- they finished the ride at 5:15 p.m.- after 10 hours on the road- what determination-

As I said- the ride was a hot one- I was 1st. rider in- but Cathy - from Harbor House beat me by 5 minutes- she is really a tough rider- all day- we (Rich, Darryl, Laura and me) were hammering- yet every time we looked up Cathy and her friend were right there with us- on hybrid bikes- wearing tennis shoes- very humbling)

WE had 2 detours- because bridges were out- but we had a nice tailwind-
tomorrow- to Crawfordsville Ind.-
See you out there

DAY OF REST!

June 12
Before I start- I forgot to mention- the Resolve guys were here when we arrived in Champaign- they helped unload bags, welcomed riders and even washed the vans- all the riders and staff had nothing but good things to say about them- They really were awesome-

Champaign to Crawfordsville Ind- 80 miles- I was 1st. rider in today- the ride today started out nice- cool- overcast- flat- crosswinds- but as the morning went on- the sun came out and it just got hot- brutally hot- I really was glad to see the hotel today- as I sit in my room- with the A/C cranked up-it's easy to forget how miserable it was on the road today- but you know- "wanted an adventure vacation"- tomorrow to Indy- and we get to do laps on the Veladrome- this should be fun- just get on the track and crank it out-

Also- today while riding I lost my cell phone- it dropped out of my seat bag and fell on the road- now the incredible thing- Damien was about 30 minutes behind me- he saw a shiney object on the ground- rode about another half mile- THAN- turned around- picked it up- saw the screen saver of my grandson- who he met yesterday- and brought it back to me- Unbelievable-

See you out there

Crawfordsville Ind- Indianapolis Ind.- So- today was miserable- rained all day- headwinds- rain- dogs chasing us- climbing- seemingly random meandering through the subdivisions of Indy- than we got to the Veladrome - we did a couple of laps- but the rain and weather limited our ability- oh yeah- also- just for fun- my front brakes weren't working today- which made it interesting on the downhill- rain covered streets-
So all in all- I'm glad we're moving on tomorrow-

See you out there
