Hamburg NY to the Finger Lakes- 92 miles- this was a
beautiful ride- lots of climbing- but nice weather-
gorgeous scenery- I had lead legs today- so I didn't
really feel like riding- but still it was a good day- I
was 4th. rider in- Darryl was on fire- he got to the
hotel before the support staff-
June 22
Finger Lakes to Syracuse- 68 miles- this was a great
day- 2nd. rider in- 4:45 minutes on the road- we went
through Erie Canal State Park-really beautiful- New York
wins the prize for bugs- now I know what my windshield
feels like- yesterday I swallowed a bug so big that it
nearly knocked me off my bike when it went in my mouth-
YUCK-
anyway- I like NY- good roads, good food, beautiful
scenery-
see you out there

June 23
First- an update on the update- a
couple of days ago I wrote that I couldn't really
remember anything from the ride from Erie Penn- that was
true- but I have remembered an important detail- while
in Erie we (Rich, Laura, Darryl and me) went to visit
the office of the
Erie Otter's- a minor league Hockey team- they gave
us some Otter flags for our bikes and thus TEAM OTTER
was born- Janie has become an honorary member- since we
had 5 flags and Maryann as well- (since they are both
blazing fast)- so we are becoming truly obnoxious with
our Otter chants and our flags- -
but team Otter continues to come in at the tip of the
spear- yesterday- we were riders 1-5 in and today riders
3-8 ,
so
Syracuse to Little Falls NY- 79 miles- 4:50 min- this
was a nice ride- beautiful scenery, good roads not much
traffic- and team Otter pretty much rode together-
except for Janie who was too fast for us to keep up with
her-
Catholic Charities set up an impromptu SAG stop with
drinks, and food at mile 56- just a good day or riding
June 24
Little Falls NY to Albany NY- 69 miles- Catholic
Charities set up another impromptu SAG stop today- with
more food, drinks, music and lots of people to cheer us-
this was really nice- the first part of the ride was
nice- not much climbing, good roads, cool weather,
little traffic- but the last 20 miles were mostly
through towns, lots of obnoxious traffic- we ( TEAM
OTTER- bet it's already getting obnoxious to you- )
almost got hit several times by people you are obviously
driving in a coma- how do you not see 7 bikes in a line-
with orange flags- and our TEAM OTTER flags below
those?- anyway- we all got here safe- and today is over-
2 more riding days until we are in Boston- than a a
short ride to the ocean on Friday-
Tomorrow- Brattleboro VT- less traffic- but Monster
climbing- but TEAM OTTER will prevail-
See you out there
Jim
June 25
Albany NY to Brattleboro VT- 80
miles- monster climbing,- today- the best I can say
about it- is it's over- the weather was great- and
really the climbing- while intense- a 12.5 mile climb
and a lot of shorter one- all climbs have downs- which
are equally intense- but- the roads were in really bad
shape- and the traffic was incessant- spent most of the
day trying not to get hit- but at least it's over- and
tomorrow we go through New Hampshire and into
Massachusetts- Friday we go to the ocean- FRIDAY IS
THE FINAL DAY!!
See you out there
Jim
June 26
Boston to the Atlantic Ocean- we rode to the ocean today
for the Atlantic wheel dip and the end of the ride- 18
miles to the ocean- we had a police escort the final 5
miles.
So- 3 tires, 4 tubes, 3 water bottles, countless tubes
of sunscreen, salt sticks, Gatorade, snicker bars and
strawberry milkshakes- and here we are- it was a hell of
a trip!!!
see you out there
